Traiter des patients présentant des troubles cardiaques n’est pas chose aisée. Surveillance étroite et extrême sensibilité au regard de la convalescence des patients sont nécessaires. De nombreux facteurs peuvent avoir des conséquences sur la convalescence des patients après une chirurgie cardiothoracique. Mais les experts s’accordent à dire qu’un système de drainage efficace est l’un des outils les plus essentiels pour prévenir les complications et réduire la durée d’hospitalisation.

Les résultats continus en temps réel et l’historique du drainage des liquides et des fuites d’air du drain thoracique sont affichés de manière lisible sur le système Thopaz+ et permettent de mieux évaluer la gestion du drain thoracique.
L’affichage numérique des données permet au personnel soignant chargé de prendre les décisions de réopérer et de retirer le drain thoracique au moment le plus opportun.
La différence d’évaluation entre les observateurs est ainsi réduite et la surveillance des progrès du patient facilitée entre les différents services.8
Les alarmes sont particulièrement utiles dans le cadre d'une chirurgie cardiothoracique, lorsqu'un dysfonctionnement du drainage peut entraîner un risque immédiat pour le patient (tamponnade péricardique, par exemple)3

Le transfert en unité de soins intensifs immédiatement après l'opération est l'une des phases les plus délicates après une chirurgie cardiothoracique. Durant cette période, un drainage suffisant du sang est d'une importance capitale.3
